Summer Auto Care Saturday took place over a month ago. If my memory serves, it was a hot and sunny day. A day that started out in the early morning hours loading a trailer full of supplies. As Greg, Bryan, and I discussed the 12 hours ahead of us, there were several things on our mind. We had not heard from a number of our usual volunteers, so we did not know who was going to show up to care for the 20 plus cars that day. Add to that, several volunteers had contacted us ahead of time to let us know they would not be able to serve.
We had concerns about the weather. Because this ministry takes place in Chapelgate's parking lot, the weather has a big impact on our day. That day's weather forecast was for lots of sun. The sun tends to wear you out faster and can cause your skin to burn. Because we had so few volunteers, we did not know if we would be able to set up the needed temporary shelters. Not knowing how God would provide, we headed out confident He would.
As anticipated, He did, we had several helpers come by unexpectedly and take on different vital parts of the ministry. We had a few new younger volunteers step up and serve the entire 10 hour day. As you will see in the pictures, everyone was busy and worked hard. Lunch was provided by Harriet and by 12 noon we were ready to eat.
At the end of the day, we loaded the trailer and headed to our favorite local diner spot, 5 Guys in Dobbin Center. Over burgers and frys, we were able to Praise God for all He provided and ask Him to give us the needed rest and physical healing to serve again in the Fall.
The Fall Auto Care Saturday is scheduled for September 15 from 8:00AM to 2:30PM.
Look for our online registration starting in late August.
